The original piece was a wedding gift. The marriage proposal took place during a hike by Llyn Idwal in Wales. I wrote the following in the accompanying card:

How fitting that you chose Llyn Idwal as the place to make the momentous decision to embark on your journey through life together. After an easy start, the path soon turns rocky—at times quite arduous, at others a bit less demanding, and here and there, not entirely without risk. That makes it all the more important to know that there is someone by your side—someone who will reach out a hand to help, someone you can truly rely on. And for those who take the time and find the stillness to pause and look back, what emerges—beyond the effort and the danger—is a raw, primordial beauty and an almost infinite expanse beneath an open sky. This holds true for this particular spot on earth, and, just as surely, for the rest of your lives together.
